The European Union is ready to lift sanctions in place against Cuba.
The sanctions were put in place by the EU back in 2003 following an incident where 70 dissidents were placed in jail.
Two years later, the sanctions were suspended, but never removed.
The EU is ready to take the symbolic action of lifting the sanctions.
The announcement was made at the first day of an EU summit in Brussels.
The plan to lift sanctions against Cuba goes against U.S. policy as they will have a U.S. trade embargo in place.
