The Iraqi government has announced that the curfew in Baghdad will soon be lifted.
The curfew is set to end at 0600 local time.
This comes after Shia cleric Moqtada Sadr ordered his fighters to get off of the streets in major Iraqi cities, calling for an end to the violence.
A vehicle ban will remain in effect in three Shia areas of the capital even though the curfew is over.
Since the violence began less than a week ago, over 240 people have been killed.
The militia has been ordered to stop fighting government troops though.
Moqtada Sadr stated “Because of the religious responsibility, and to stop Iraqi blood being shed … we call for an end to armed appearances in Basra and all other provinces.”
“Anyone carrying a weapon and targeting government institutions will not be one of us.”
