French architect Jean Nouvel has won the 2008 Pritzker Architecture Prize.
The announcement came on Sunday, as Nouvel joins Frank Gehry, Tadao Ando, and I.M. Pei with winning the award.
Nouvel is world-renowned for his extremely modern architectural style.
He stated “I think they understood very well that I fight for specific architecture against generic architecture. Every project is an adventure.”
The 62-year-old is the second winner from France. The first was Christian de Portzamparcin 1994.
A formal ceremony is planned for June at the Library of Congress in Washington.
He is set to receive a $100,000 grant as well as a bronze medallion.
