The suicide bombing took place near the headquarters of the army according to the Interior Ministry spokesman Javed Iqbal Cheema.

He stated that the blast was very close to President Pervez Musharraf’s office and could have done serious damage if it was a bit closer as he was in his office at the time. Thankfully he was not hurt in the suicide attack.

Cheema stated that “The blast ook place near the house of the chairman of the joint chiefs of staff committee.”

The suicide bombing took place specifically at a police checkpoint. At this location you are granted access to move onto the headquarters of the army. A man approached the checkpoint and detonated the explosives causing the damage, injuries, and unfortunate deaths.

The victims included two police officers as well as others. Apparently the police tried to take on the man before he was able to blow himself up. The police were the target though and really had no chance.

The last time an attack took place in Rawalpindi was on September 4th when 25 were killed in an attack by two suicide bombers.
