A New York police officer in civilian clothes opened fire Thursday afternoon, after a pursuit on the crowded sidewalks of the city, killing one person.
The shooting broke out after a man was suspected of defrauding tourists strolling along Broadway had been chased. The man had previously refused to identify themselves to police.
The victim, aged 25, allegedly shot with a pistol stolen in the direction of the police officer the prosecutor. This was replicated four times, hitting fatally.
The windows of shops were shattered in the gunfire, sparking concern among customers, many, doing their shopping for the holiday season.
The man killed was not identified. The NYPD believes that with the help of an accomplice, they swindled the tourists in a scheme involving burned CDs.
