Roman Polanski will remain until at least next Monday in prison. The Federal Office of Justice (FOJ) announced Friday that he needed more time to determine the conditions of house arrest of the Franco-Polish film director.
Last Wednesday, the Federal Criminal Court (TPF) agreed to release Polanski on bail and under house arrest. The filmmaker, wanted by the U.S. court for having sex with a minor 30 years ago, must pay a deposit of 4.5 million Swiss francs (about 3 million euros), and wait his possible extradition to the United States in his chalet in Gstaad, equipped with an electronic monitoring bracelet.
Roman Polanski was arrested last September 26 at the Zurich airport and remanded in custody for his extradition. This follows an international arrest warrant issued by the United States after the flight director in Europe, who pleaded guilty to having sex with a minor of 13 years in 1977. The formal extradition request was sent last October 22 by the Embassy of the United States in Bern.
