President George W. Bush has declared counties in Missouri as part of a major disaster area.

The National Guard has also been sent to the hardest hit areas in the state.

The storms have dropped over 30 cm of rain, sending rivers well over their boundaries, causing extensive flooding.

More than a dozen people have died thus far, being swept away by the flood waters and in traffic accidents.

It is believed that the worst is behind them, but with dozens of homes destroyed or damaged across the state, it will be some time before things get back to normal.
