Washington - The former speaker of the House New Gingrich has stated that it was a legal necessity for him to skip out on the 2008 Presidential race.
He stated that it was not that there were a lack of resources or a lack of potential. It seems that he believes that if he could have ran for president he would have had an honest shot as a Republican. His announcement over the weekend though that he would not be running was because it would not allow him to continue to work with the American Solutions organization.
He stated that “”To give up and kill an organization we spent a year on, and that had 2,000 sites around the country where people had now invested their time and effort, just to look at whether or not you could run, I thought would be irresponsible.”
He also spoke to ABC about campaign finance laws and now he is not pleased with the way in which they are going. He was ready to launch a $30 million fund-raising web site according to sources which would have made him an instant contender for the White House run.
He stated “I think it would have been a real campaign. I think we would have had a chance to win.” We will never know though as Gingrich will not run.
