The Federal Communication Commission has fined major retailers millions of dollars for violating rules in regards to the transition to DTV.
Retailers who were fined included Best Buy, Sears, Wal-Mart, Target, and Circuit City.
They were fined for violating a federal rule on how to label analog televisions. The rule states that they have to label the analog TV and other analog TV-related merchandise to inform consumers that they will have to buy a converter box for the switch to digital TV next February.
The fines total $3,928,000.
The label is supposed to inform consumers about the switch to digital TV on February 17, 2009.
Sears was hit with the hardest with $1,096,000 in fines.
