Minnesota Wild defenseman Kurtis Foster of the NHL is out for the season following a broken leg he received during a touch-up icing call.
Foster is now out for the rest of the season, including the playoffs.
He hit the boards hard on Wednesday night racing for the puck with San Jose Sharks’ rookie Torrey Mitchell.
Foster went through surgery on Thursday to repair a displaced fracture in his femur.
He also had to have a stabilizing rod placed in his leg.
This incident has sparked calls in the NHL to add no-touch icing, as he was trying to race for the puck and tripped over Mitchell’s stick.
