The NHL has sent down a decision that they have suspended Atlanta Thrashers left winger Ilya Kovalchuk for a hit from behind.
The hit from behind was on New York Rangers defenseman Michal Rozsival.
The news came down on Wednesday from the National Hockey League.
The Russian star, Kovalchuk, is currently in second place in the NHL in scoring with 63 points. He will have to miss the game on Thursday night, which is actually a rematch with the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden in New York.
The hit from behind came late in the 1st period of the Thrashers game on Tuesday night.
Kovalchuk drew a five-minute major for the hit, which was called boarding, and a game misconduct.
He will also forfeit a game check, $34,224.
