Broadcaster Kelly Tilghman has already apologized to Tiger Woods about her comment that in order for players to get ahead of him, they would have to lynch him. Rev. Al Sharpton on the other hand refuses to let the fire die.
Tiger Woods has already stated that he accepts the apology from the broadcaster and has absolutely no problem with the comment. The comment was made during the coverage of the Hawaii Mercedes-Benz Championship with co-host Nick Faldo and Kelly Tilghman talking. Faldo stated “To take Tiger on, well yeah, they should just gang up for a while until..”
Tilghman interrupted, laughing, stating “Lynch him in a back alley.”
Rev. Al Sharpton took the opportunity as he always does to turn it into a racial situation. He stated “Lynching is not murder in general, it is not assault in general. it is a specific racial term that this woman should be held accountable for. What she said is racist. Whether she’s a racist - whether she runs around at night making racist statements - is immaterial.”
Sharpton is calling for her to be fired.
Tiger Woods has no issue though as he stated through a statement by his agent that “We know unequivocally that there was no ill intent in her comments.”
Tilghman has been suspended for two weeks by the Golf Channel due to pressure from Sharpton and others.
