Four were for perjury and one for obstruction of justice.

The obstruction of justice charge was for testifying before a federal grand jury back in 2003, stating he never used anabolic steroids or human growth hormone during his career or life.

The indictment was the culmination of a four-year investigation into Barry Bonds and steroids used by athletes in major sports such as Major League Baseball.

Barry Bonds has long been considered a major suspect in the steroids investigation as many called for an asterick to go next to his name in the record book as home run leader.

The lawyer for Bonds, Michael Rains, stated “I am utterly confident that this case will absolutely dissipate when the misconduct of the government comes to the forefront in this case.”

Rains was mad that the 43-year-old Bonds and himself learned of the indictment from a reporter.

Bonds is a free agent as the San Francisco Giants declined to offer the 43-year-old a new contract. He will appear on December 7 before a magistrate to make his first initial appearance in the case in San Francisco.

He could serve 10 years in prison for obstruction of justice and 5 years for perjury.
