The phone-carrier recognized for their ads featuring spokeswoman Catherine Zeta-Jones is set to announce its second phone built using the Google (GOOG) Android operating system, the Associated Press reported today.

According to T-Mobile, the myTouch 3 G, like its predecessor G1, is also made by Taiwan’s HTC Corp and is based on Android technology. However, it is a slimmer, light-weight and a more sophisticated version of the G1.

The hardware itself is a virtual carbon copy of the HTC Magic, which went on sale earlier this year in Europe as well as Canada, although the “myTouch 3G” moniker (plus box art) was leaked earlier this month. The Wall Street Journal reported late last week that an official announcement was imminent.

Pre-orders begin July 8th with three different color choices: white, black, and the much awaited merlot. T-Mobile was the first to introduce an Android device, the G1, late last year, and claims it has sold over a million units
