Washington (OTL) – President-elect Barack Obama wants to delay the switch from analog to digital television broadcasting.
Obama has come out and is now urging Congress to postpone the switch planned for February 17, 2009.
The switch would change over all analog TV signals to digital TV.
Obama believes that there are too many Americans who are not ready for the switch.
Obama sent a letter to lawmakers on Thursday asking that the delay be put into place.
A big reason is due to the fact that the Commerce Department has run out of money to supply people with coupons to purchase a digital TV converter box.
This would have allowed people to get a free digital TV converter box.
With these coupons no longer available, the switch on February 17th would leave many Americans without TV.
