Toronto (OTL) - The Mars rover, named Opportunity, is all set to to start a two year mission to a new crater.
It is likely that the mission will never be completed, however the rover will still attempt it.
The mission will consist of a 7-mile journey to a crater that is bigger than the one it is currently staying it.
before scientists can catch the view from the ridge, Opportunity must crawl around at an estimated top speed a day of 110 yards. This could mean it could take two years to reach its destination.
The Endeavour crater, a bowl 13.7 miles (22 km) across, should offer the chance to study a much deeper stack of rock layers than those Opportunity saw in Victoria Crater.
“This is a bolder, more aggressive objective than we have had before,” said John Callas, the project manager for both Mars rovers at NASA’s Jet Propulsion in California. “It’s tremendously exciting. It’s new science.
