Washington, D.C.- The FCC is accusing Comcast for Internet violations regarding open access, maintaining that Comcast blocked certain types of P2P network traffic.
Comcast has engaged in blocking some types of P2P traffic according to the FCC and then they kept silent about their actions.
An advocate of network neutrality, the organization called Free Press entered a complaint with the FCC accusing Comcast of the P2P Internet traffic violation.
The FCC has investigated and found that in fact Comcast has been engaging in activity that violated the FCC agency guidelines regarding open Internet Access.
“We have found that Comcast has violated our operating guidelines and principals,” said FCC Chief Kevin Martin.
“We require Internet Service Providers in the United States to provide open access to the networks they maintain, subject to a reasonable level of network management,” said Martin.
Martin says that Comcast blocked file-sharing applications of all traffic flow amounts, and did not disclose its actions to consumers.
The Federal Communications Commission will vote on possible enforcement action next month, which would demand Comcast to cease P2P traffic blocking, and to keep the FCC and their customers informed actively about their actions.
