Mountain View, CA-In a whimsical bid to create its own newly carved niche, the Mozilla foundation established a new world record with its single day download record for its new Firefox 3 web site browser.
Over 8 million downloads were successfully created on June 18th according to the company, setting the bar for any other future releases by a software company with downloaded software.
The Guinness World Book of Records was pleased to add the new category to its book for world records, and believes it is a definite new yardstick for software companies to shoot for when they offer new software to the public.
“We are pleased to be able to record and arbitrate this new world record, and to be able to confirm the successful download of 8, 002,530 separate downloads of the Firefox 3 browser.” Said Gareth Deaves.
Mr. Deaves is the Guinness World Book Records Manager.
At first the attempt to set a world record nearly was the record that never was, as servers across the United States fell like dominoes during a spate of glitches and errors.
Eventually the mistakes and server issues were all solved and the true downloading began in earnest.
