From this point forward, Windows XP will no longer be available to any computer makers or retail shoppers.

This comes as Microsoft has retired XP in favor of continuing to push the Windows Vista operating system.

Things are not all well with the switch though, as many are waiting until 2010 for Windows 7 before they actually upgrade their systems.

Microsoft will no longer produce Windows XP to large computer makers such as Dell, Lenovo, HP, and others.

It will continue to offer the OS to small PC makers through July of next year. They will also make it available to PC makers who make ultra-low-cost PCs and laptops through 2010.

Support for Windows XP will continue through 2014.
