Washington - According to Sony, the PS3 will be getting a movie download service in North America starting next month.
Sony made the announcement at a news conference in Tokyo, stating that the PS3 will soon be offering movie downloads through the PlayStation Store.
This adds to the media capabilities of the machine, which already has a built-in Blu-ray player.
Sony is playing catch-up though as Microsoft has already had downloadable movies available on the Xbox 360’s Xbox Live Marketplace since 2006.
No word on when it will release in either Japan or Europe.
