MySpace, the largest social-networking site in the world, has been awarded $230 million in an anti-spam case.
A federal judge made the ruling against Sanford Wallace, also known as the Spam King, and his partner partner Walter Rines.
These spammers sent out more than 730,000 e-mails to MySpace consumers, stealing passwords, accounts, and pretending to be friends to people and then trying to get them to purchase items such as ringtones.
Under the anti-spam law known as CAN-SPAM, a violation carries a $100 fine which brings the total up to $230 million.
MySpace has stated that even if they do not collect the money, they hope that this will serve as a big warning to spammers.
