Palm has stated that they have plans to close shop on their retail stores in an effort to try and compete better.
They stated that they want to focus on fewer programs, and in order to do this they will be closing all eight of their Palm-branded retail stores, along with 26-stores within Airport Wireless shops.
Palm has been facing far more competition than ever before from Research In Motion’s BlackBerry products. BlackBerry has been making a push lately on the retail level and taking away some of the market share Palm has enjoyed over the years.
Palm stated that closing the stores will allow them to focus more on core business initiatives. They will also consolidate resources by making this move as they will be able to focus on fewer programs.
It has also cancelled the smartphone companion product, the Foleo which was supposed to release in mid-2007.
