The social networking site Bebo has copied the recent move by Facebook as they have announced the launch of their Open Application Platform on Wednesday for developers.
The announcement copies something which Facebook announced back in May stating that they are opening their platform to developers of third-party applications.
Bebo has many partners already lined up to take part in their social network which has over 40 million users. These include NBC Universal, Jangl, Gaia Online, as well as Flixster.
Bebo stated that their platform is 100% compatible with the Facebook platform, meaning that all applications will work across the board.
Bebo CEO and co-founder Michael Birch stated that “We’re not doing this to compete with Facebook. We’re doing this to create a better experience for the user.” We’re trying to take the great product and utility of Facebook and wrap that around the content and freedom of expression on MySpace.”
Bebo also allows developers to keep the revenue generated within the social network from the apps. The reason for this is that Birch claims “We want to grow a really established network.”
