Google under fire for privacy issues

December 13th, 2007 · No Comments

Rep. Joe Barton, a privacy advocate, has come out and stated that Google has not followed initial deals which would have allowed aides to visit the Google location in Mountain View, California. A top House Republican has targeted Google and their policy on privacy as they have been handed a series of questions the House Republican wants answered.

Rep. Joe Barton, a privacy advocate, has come out and stated that Google has not followed initial deals which would have allowed aides to visit the Google location in Mountain View, California.

Barton’s job on the House Energy and Commerce Committee is for internet regulation.

Barton stated that “all efforts to reach a mutually agreeable time have been rebuffed, and it begins to seem that no date for a visit is sufficiently convenient to Google. Your warm initial invitation follwed by Google’s chilly response to a proposed visit by Committee counsels is disconcerting.”

Google CEO Eric Schmidt has received a complaint letter from Barton on the matter as no date was ever set for this to take place.

Barton questions what Google does with their search queries from their users, how long user search information is kept, what data will be merged with DoubleClick, and more. Barton has asked for a response to the letter which has around 25 questions in it by December 18th.
