Retailers in the United States sold through 519,000 units of the Nintendo Wii console. This is a 36% gain from September allowing Nintendo to once again take the top spot. Nintendo and the Wii lost the top spot in September due to the release of Halo 3 for the Xbox 360 which sparked sales greatly.

According to the marketing chief of Nintendo in the U.S., George Harrison, the sales increase for the Wii is due to the increased production heading into the holiday season.

Sony cut the price of the PS3 in October which allowed the PS3 sales to do quite well also, but not enough to catch the Wii.

366,000 Xbox 360 consoles were sold in October compared to 121,000 Sony PS3 consoles.

The amazing thing is that Nintendo sells every Wii console that goes to retail, however many they produce, that is the number they sell.

Sony cut the price of the PS3 by $100 to $499 on October 18th for the 60GB model and also introduced a budget $399 40GB model as well. This has caused PS3 sales to surge quite a bit as of late, but not yet enough to get them back in the next-gen console race with the Xbox 360 and Wii.
