A new study has confirmed that you need the proper amount of sleep to remain healthy. This new study, conducted by West Virginia University, has shown that people need a minimum of 7 hours a sleep a day for optimum heart health. This time can be divided between sleep and naps, but 7 hours minimum is required for health purposes.

The study also found that people who sleep less than five or more than nine increase cardiovascular damage significantly. People who lack the 7 hour sleep minimum too often have an increased rate of heart disease and problems. The study also linked lack of sleep with angina and stroke.

The study also has shown that this is more prominent in people under 60 years of age and that the person’s gender does not matter. Both men and women are equally affected by lack of sleep.

Scientists believe that the increase in heart disease and related disorders from lack of sleep is due to metabolic dysfunction. When you sleep your endocrine system rejuvenates. Failures to recharge your metabolism will cause havoc on your system. Doctors recommend that you make the effort to find at least 7 hours to sleep each day, even if you have to split the time into naps.
