The Richmond, Va.-based cigarette maker said Thursday it filed lawsuits against a total of 10 retailers in New Jersey and New York for alleged sales of counterfeit versions of Marlboro brand cigarettes.

Philip Morris said since May of this year, it has filed 27 lawsuits alleging sales of counterfeit cigarettes by retailers in New York and New Jersey.

The company is asking the courts to ban retailers from selling the product and turn over profits from the cigarettes, along with punitive damages and attorney’s fees.

Philip Morris USA brands include Marlboro, Virginia Slims, Merit, Parliament, Alpine, Basic, Cambridge, Bucks, Chesterfield, Collector’s Choice, Commander, English Ovals, Lark, L&M, Players and Saratoga.
