Washington – President-elect Barack Obama assured people in a speech to a town hall meeting that the choice to overhaul the health care system of this nation is still possible. He reiterated that this process will only work when all sides are ready and willing to work together to make it happen.
Obama’s nominee for health and human services secretary, Tom Daschle quoted South African President Nelson Mandela in a meeting Monday, saying, “Many things seem impossible until they are done.” Daschle is thought to be the main leader of widespread health care reform that the Obama administration stands for.
The health care overhaul is meant to assist American’s who find it difficult or impossible to get the care they need. There are also many reports of doctors who are unable to give the best care because they need to be aware of what the patient will be able to afford. Because of this, many treatments are forgone because of the excessive cost even though they could safe the person’s life. The bottom line? The common person cannot afford health insurance or basic care and treatment for disease.
This discussion occurred at the Dublin Fire Department east of Indianapolis where hundreds of people gathered to voice their opinions and have a serious discussion about the health care system. They feel a great amount of hope because health care was one of the main talking points of Obama’s campaign. Now, for the first time in years, people are feeling more positive about the future of health care in the United States.
