Washington (OTL) - Researchers have found that the herb ginkgo biloba does not prevent Alzheimer’s.
Researchers were hopeful that the herb would be able to prevent dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease.
This is not the case though according to a new study led by Dr. Steven DeKosky of the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and M edical Center.
The study, published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, focused on how the herb could prevent dementia.
The study included 3,100 adults aged 75 and older, most with normal cognition at beginning of the study.
What they found by testing out the herb was that the cognitive levels were no different for those taking the herb compared to those on a placebo.
This shows the herb had no impact on preventing the disease.
