Washington (OTL) - According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), babies born via ART are more likely to have birth defects.
ART is known as assisted reproductive technology and is usd to help the babies become conceived.
The study was done on 13,500 babies born with birth defects, and 5,000 babies without birth defects.
Researchers have found that some birth defects are four times more common in ART babies compared to babies conceived naturally.
The birth defects include heart wall problems, as well as issues with cleft lip/palate.
ART is becoming more common as 1% of infants are conceived with it.
The CDC published the findings in the online edition of the Human Reproduction journal.
