Toronto (OTL) - A recent study shows that doctors are becoming increasingly less empathic towards their patients.
The study focused on patients suffering from lung cancer and their relationship with their specific doctor. The study was based out of the Veterans Affairs hospital in Houston, Texas.
The study examined 384 different occasions where patients were having emotional concerns.
It was discovered that rather then helping their patients, doctors chose to ignore their patients emotional problems.
In just 39 cases, or 10% of the time, doctors did show some kind of empathy towards their patients.
Why has this changed over the years? It shows doctors are not helping with emotional needs on a regular basis.
