Americans spend big dollars on health care

Americans spend $30 billion out-of-pocket each year on health care.Washington (OTL) - A new study published in the journal Health Affairs online has revealed that uninsured Americans spend $30 billion out-of-pocket each year on health care.

Researchers at the George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia, as well as the Urban Institute in Washington carried out the study via a survey.

Uninsured Americans were found to spend $30 billion out-of-pocket annually.

Beyond that, they found that the U.S. government paid up 75% of what Medicare and Medicaid could not pay.

This cost the U.S. government over $40 billion annually.

Even physicians are taking a hit, as the report showcased that uninsured Americans cost them $8 billion in lost profits annually.

The total cost for uninsured Americans yearly stood at $208.6 billion for health care.
