Calgary- The health officials in Alberta are mystified because two different babies born at different times have been stricken by the same mysterious bacterial infection, one of which resulted in the baby’s death.
A local investigation has not found any evidence of how the babies contracted the infection, but the province authorities and the opposition party are working to investigate the reason for the bacterial infections.
The two babies were born one day apart in the Lethbridge hospital and it has led to critics requesting an independent investigation.
The first baby that fell ill, a little boy died, while the second infant is in critical condition and still in the same Lethbridge hospital, located about 220 kilometres to the Southwest of Calgary.
The health critic for the Alberta Liberal party, Dave Taylor maintains that the province should work to hire an expert that is objective from outside to come and investigate the situation.
“These babies were born a day apart, and they got the same bacterial infection, this shows that there is a possible link, and a problem,” said Mr. Taylor.
A representative of the Province medical board has said that there are a number of questions that remain to be answered.
