Boston (OTL) - More American war veterans than ever are reaching out to the Veterans Affairs Department suicide hotline to seek help.
The Veterans Affairs Department worked with the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration to set up the hotline, aimed at helping veterans when they return home.
A new report released has shown that 22,000 veterans have received help from the hotline in the last 12 months. On average, it receiving 250 calls each and every day.
This resulted in over 1,200 suicides being prevented.
With more veterans returning home from Iraq and Afghanistan, the suicide hotline is expected to grow to meet the growing demand for help.
This back up the RAND study, which showcased the immense number of veterans suffering from stress-related problems.
