Boston, MA- Parents flocked to stores seeking to purchase child car seats in the Boston area yesterday after a new state law went into effect.
Children 8 years of age and younger are now required to be in a car seat when they ride in an automobile in the State of Massachusetts.
The state looked at the issue and determined that children 8 years and younger needed to be safeguarded, and so a new law was passed.
Police and Public Safety Officers in the Boston Area and throughout the State of Massachusetts are on the lookout for scofflaws to the new law, and it is seen as an important new safety measure that benefits children statewide.
“After talking to experts in the medical field, the state Health Department decided action was needed to protect the children in our state,” said David Procopio.
Mr. Procopio is the Massachusetts State Police Spokesman who commented on the new law.
The law that went into effect July 10th says that children must use a booster car seat until they reach 8 years of age, or until they reach a height of 4 feet 9 inches in height.
