Washington - An FDA panel has voted in favor of forming new, more strict safety standards for diabetes drugs.
The FDA panel came in with a vote of 14-2 on Wednesday in favor of the tougher standards.
The tougher standards will lead to longer trials, and added costs to drug manufacturers.
In the long run though it will help reduce the number of unforseen health risks, such as heart risks.
The FDA does not have to follow the advice of the panel, but it usually does so.
