Chicago-There are a great number of laws that prohibit the act of adults procuring alcohol for young people. In fact in recent years a number of sting and anti teen drinking programs have worked to try and cut down on the number of teenagers that receive alcohol from adults.
Despite this, millions of Teenagers across the United States and overseas are still receiving alcohol from older adults that are legal drinking age.
A Federal Study that has been conducted over the last four years has found that nearly 40 percent of drinker’s aged 12 to 20 had been able to get alcohol from older adults in the preceding 30 days.
Many that work with teenagers were not surprised by this study.
Social Service providers, parents and even members of the police say that despite pro-active prevention, stiff fines and penalties the main source of alcohol for young people is still older adults that purchase the alcohol for the young people.
According to many in the youth field, older people, especially relatives of the youth involved, simply do not see it as a problem or even as illegal, even with all of the public attempts at education and prevention.
