More Than A Dozen Cases Reported In New England State
Hingham, MA-The shoppers in Massachusetts took to the supermarkets more warily on Monday after a number of tomato borne salmonella has been reported throughout the state.
The first cases of Salmonella were reported late last week, and there are now at least 15 known cases, with more trickling in each day of the Salmonella illness that has affected much of the nation.
Tomatoes on the vine are still okay, but many people have sworn off tomatoes entirely for the current time being, being afraid of which tomatoes are potentially infected and which are not.
Tomatoes such as large type have been pulled from shopper aisles, but this does not prevent the safe tomatoes nationwide from being avoided – shoppers are confused and just plain do not want to take a chance.
There have been four cases of Salmonella in Norfolk County, one case in Plymouth County, and 9 other cases reported throughout Massachusetts.
Of these cases, at least 2 of these have required hospitalization being more serious than normal.
Nationwide more than 550 people have fallen ill with the salmonella strain called Saint Paul since the first cases began in April.
