San Diego, CA-A woman who has been practicing in Chula Vista as an abortion clinic operator was arrested and charged by the District Attorney of San Diego.
Bertha Pinedo Bugarin faces charges for the same issues in Los Angeles. She is accused of telling young Hispanic women that she was a doctor, and the practice of giving abortions and other medical procedures without a medical license.
“This is shameful, the defendant practiced medicine and preyed on innocent young Hispanic women in the community,” said Bonnie Dumanis.
Bonnie Dumanis is the District Attorney of San Diego County.
“She passed herself off as a doctor and put many women’s lives in repeated danger,” said Dumanis.
Nine former patients from the Clinica Medica de La Mujer have stepped forward and identified Ms. Bugarin as the women who operated on them without a license.
In on case a woman gave birth prematurely and her baby lived only three hours. In other cases there were life-threatening complications that could have easily resulted in death for the women involved.
At the height of her illegal actions Ms. Bugarin ran six illegal abortion clinics in Southern California, and prosecutors are targeting her because of her wide advertising and illegal activity in the Mexican American Hispanic population of San Diego and Southern California.
