Genes May Not Be Final Determiner For Cancer Patients

Washington, D.C.-When it comes to male prostate cancer, the lifestyle of a patient may affect their recovery as much or more than their genetic makeup.

New research has shown that reduction in stress and getting more exercise can have a huge impact on how genes interact with the human body.

Some men who are at high risk for prostate cancer can actually avoid getting the disease if they are faithful to get regular exercise and work to practice stress reduction, according to a new study.

The new study is being published in the June 18, 2008 Issue of “Proceedings,” a publication of the National Academy of Sciences.

Eating a well-balanced and healthy diet, getting regular exercise and working to reduce the level of stress is being shown to affect how genes express themselves in the human body.

Patients who are at risk genetically for prostate cancer can actually trigger their genes to “turn off,” or avoid leading to development of prostate cancer.

These health lifestyle changes can help the gene sequences not activate, especially the ones that trigger prostate cancer development, according to the new research.
