New York City- In the first of many hopeful medical insurers to join its electronic online service, Google Health announced that it had brought its first health insurer online.

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Massachusetts has become the first health insurer to publicly announce its participation in the Online Google Health plan.

The insurer announced jointly with officials from Google Health its participation last Thursday and said it was providing free electronic access to its three million-customer base sometime this fall.

The Google Health Project was launched in the second half of May and it can accept uploaded health records from organizations, individual patients, as well as allowing patients to create their own online viable health profile.

Google has announced as partners in the electronic health medical records venture CVS Pharmacy, Quest Diagnostics, Long Drug Stores, Cleveland Clinic, Medico, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Walgreens Pharmacy, Caremark, and the American Heart Association.

The new electronic Health online feature will have a number of elements to assist its users, such as a link to find doctors by specialization or by location.

It is expected that there will also be features that both users and medical organizations can benefit from.
