Power failure kills women who lived 50 years in iron lung

A Tennessee woman who has spent more than 50 years in an iron lung died due to a power failure.A Tennessee woman who has spent more than 50 years in an iron lung died due to a power failure.

The woman, 61-year old Dianne Odell died early on Wednesday inside of her 7-foot-long iron lung which she has had since the age of 3.

At 3-yeard old, she became ill with polio and had to be placed inside the instrument.

A power failure caused the machine to shut down, thus stopping her breathing.

The family tried to get an emergency generator to get it back up and running but was unable to do so.

Her parents and family cared for her their entire life.

She received a high school diploma and took college courses as well.a
