A new study has come out and stated that premature babies are more likely to have birth defects.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s National Center on Birth Defects and Developmental Disabilities ran the study, which looked at nearly 7 million babies who were born from 1995 to 2000.
The study found premature babies born between 24 and 31 weeks were 5 times more likely than full-term infants to suffer from birth defects.
Cardiovascular problems and problems with the nervous system were the most common defects.
More research will be done to look at the cause of this increased risk.
