Dermatologist Christine White has come out and stated that lip balm and lip gloss actually increase your risk of skin cancer. They do this because they actually attract the sun. They are increasing the ability for the sun’s rays to penetrate through the surface of their lips by using the substances.
The fear is that many people do not know the risk factors associated with using the lip balm and gloss.
The best recommendation given is to use a layer of SPF 30 sun protection under any shiny lip balms and glosses. This will help battle the increased skin cancer risk.
