According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, this past flu season was the worst in four years.
The CDC has blamed the rough flu season on the ineffective flu vaccines.
The flu vaccine was not nearly effective enough against the flu this season, as it only managed to be 44% effective, not having any impact on many of the new strains of teh flu.
During years where there is a normal flu season, the vaccine is around 80% effective. With it only at 44% this season though, you can see exactly why the flu season was so rough.
Scientists hope that the discovery of the new strains of the flu starting in East and Southeast Asia could lead to better vaccines in the future.
