Boston – U.S. District Judge Richard J. Holwell ruled in favor of a New York City policy that will force restaurants to post calorie amounts on their food menus.
The policy was challenged by the New York State Restaurant Association.
The policy was upheld though as the judge ruled that it was a reasonable way to reduce obesity in New York City.
The New York State Restaurant Association argued that the restaurants have the right in terms of nutrition and such to reveal what they want about their food.
The law will go into effect this coming Monday. Any restaurant that has more than 15 outlets across the U.S. must comply, which will include McDonald’s, Starbucks, TGI Fridays, etc.
Businesses will have until June 3rd to comply thanks to a grace period granted, after that fines will be issued.
