According to a new study, the new flu strains begin in Asia and spread around the world.
Researchers stated that a new strain of flu takes around 6 to 9 months to go from Asia to North America, Europe and abroad.
The strains end in the continent of South America.
Researchers believe that by knowing where the flu strain originate, they will be able to better anticipate it with new vaccines and such.
Lead author Colin Russell of the University of Cambridge stated “Once viruses leave East and Southeast Asia, they rarely return. And thus regions outside of East and Southeast Asia are essentially the evolutionary graveyards of influenza viruses.”
It was also found that once the flu strain leaves Asia, it does not pick up any steam or get more dangerous.
The report has been published in the journal Science.
