Merck & Co. made the announcement on Monday that their experimental obesity drug taranabant has proven to be very effective in aiding weight loss.
During a late-stage clinical study, patients on the experimental obesity drug were able to lose twice as much weight compared to those on a placebo.
This was over the course of 52-weeks.
Patients on taranabant lost on average 14.5 pounds, compared to only 5.7 pounds on a placebo.
The findings have been presented at the American College of Cardiology conference in Chicago.
This new drug could prove to be a major factor to help fight obesity.
