Congress will continue to support the anti-AIDS effort in Haiti.

Laura Bush stated during a ceremony in Haiti, “I was surprised to see the efforts carried out in Haiti.”

This is the first time the U.S. first lady paid a visit to Haiti since Hillary Clinton visited in 1998.

She made a stop in Haiti on her way to Mexico, speaking and meeting with many young people in the country who have been infected with H.I.V.

Laura Bush is pushing for the U.S. to continue the anti-AIDS support in Haiti.

She wants the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) to continue.

The program is set to expire at the end of 2008, but a U.S. Senate committee approved it to be extended for five more years on Thursday.

All that remains now is for the Senate to approve it.
