A new study was done by U.S. researchers has revealed that the lower spine in females actually has evolved to the point where it can bend so that women are able to stay upright on two feet even during the last weeks of pregnancy when their belly is at its largest point.

The spine will curve so that the center of balance for women remains directly over the hips.

Senior author of the study Dr. Daniel E. Lieberman stated “Most previous studies on the evolution of how human mothers have accommodated pregnancy have focused on the pelvis and the problems of birthing, this is the first study to look at how mothers cope with the considerable challenges of stabilization while they are pregnant.”

The report states that the lower spine curves in such a way that the trunk is directly over the hips in these pregnant women. The study was published in the issue of Nature. Women have evolved and developed this over time as proven by fossil records.
